The Museum of Enduring Beauty (Muzium Kecantikan) is situated in the UNESCO heritage site of Malacca, Malaysia, showcasing varied interpretations of beauty spanning cultures and eras. Featuring exhibits that uplift the stories of those who subscribed to rigid beauty standards, the museum exposes the profound agony that lies below the glamor of beauty, often standardized by their communities and cultures.
The redesign of MoEB’s visual system revolves around the motif of ribbons. Just as a ribbon symbolizes elegance and femininity, gracing the heads of royalty — it also communicates a sense of limitation and confinement, serving as a means to constrain and reshape through practices of corsetry and head binding. In turn, the design language manifests as twists and knots throughout MoEB’s custom typeface, website, and branding materials; manipulating familiar shapes to reflect the twisted norms of beauty conformity.
